ITV's Dr Amir Khan Says This Could Be Why You're Often 'Tired And In Pain'

If you're always feeling tired and have unexplained levels of pain, you could be suffering from a lifelong medical condition. Known as fibromyalgia, it is thought that nearly 1 in 20 people may be affected by this daily. Dr Amir Khan, a practising GP who often appears on ITV's Lorraine and other daytime TV, spoke on his Instagram feed about the issue after being asked about it by fans. The doctor explained that the chronic condition presents as a combination of symptoms - with one overriding problem being pain.

Reducing Risk Of Opioid Addiction While Alleviating Pain

Increasing the levels of endocannabinoids – chemicals naturally produced in the body – may thwart the highly addictive nature of opioids such as morphine and oxycodone while maintaining the drugs’ ability to relieve pain, according to Weill Cornell Medicine investigators, in collaboration with The Center for Youth Mental Health at NewYork-Presbyterian.

Student Spotlight: First-Year Student Embraces Advocacy Role

As a first-year college student, Alejandro Esteban, an illustration major from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., is enjoying his art classes and making friends. Also a member of RIT’s Disability Leadership Scholars Program, he educates others on campus about accommodations, and how students can advocate for them. In 2021, Esteban was diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome as a result of contracting Lyme Disease. He has chronic pain, fatigue, and although he is ambulatory, he uses a wheelchair to travel long distances.

A mother has described how her daughter Emma, who has been living with ME for 12 years, went into her hospital appointments walking and came out in a wheelchair. Janet, who volunteers for ME Action, was at the Scottish parliament in November calling for MSPs to support local ME services and specialist services across NHS Scotland.

My Walking Stick And I Are Not Going To Be Put In A Closet

To help me walk steady due to my fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, hypermobility, and complex regional pain syndrome —which were all diagnosed in 2004 — I sometimes use a walking stick. It offers me some comfort when I am out and about. It takes a little pressure off my legs. I often forget it’s even there. That’s why I was surprised when potential clients pointed out that I had a walking stick, with little to no context, except the assumption that perhaps I’m not as agile as I was before and may not be up to working. They did not ask any questions about my abilities or why I was carrying this walking stick. It’s like they whispered, “walking stick”, and walked backwards slowly in to the darkness leaving me to question my whole future.
