Sussex ME Society Celebrates 20 Years Of Specialist Service

The Sussex ME Society is observing the 20th anniversary of the NHS Sussex specialist ME/CFS service. The service, which assists individuals suffering from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), has been operational since 2005. It was established in Haywards Heath following a widespread consultation with health authorities and the Sussex ME Society. This was prompted by a survey of hundreds of affected individuals and GPs, who called for a dedicated service to aid in diagnosis and offer management courses.

Cluster Headache Often Comorbid With Fibromyalgia, Migraine

A recent study indicated that the comorbidity of cluster headache with fibromyalgia and migraine appeared to be frequent. “The comorbidity with fibromyalgia was especially associated with an increased disease burden in terms of additional medical comorbidities, sleep disturbance, mood impairment, quality of life impairment, and heavy HCRU,” wrote investigators, led by Elena P. Calandre, from the Institute of Neurosciences at University of Granada in Spain.

Key Pathophysiological Role Of Skeletal Muscle Disturbance In Post COVID And Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS): Accumulated Evidence

Recent studies provide strong evidence for a key role of skeletal muscle pathophysiology in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). In a 2021 review article on the pathophysiology of ME/CFS, we postulated that hypoperfusion and ischemia can result in excessive sodium and calcium overload in skeletal muscles of ME/CFS patients to cause mitochondrial damage. Since then, experimental evidence has been provided that supports this concept.

New Thetford Shop Offers Lifeline For Owner With Illness

A house plant fanatic has launched a new shop turning her lifelong hobby into a new business venture. Since Jen Francis, owner of Grow Indoor Plants, was diagnosed with a debilitating muscle disorder she had to look for an alternative way to carry on doing what she loved. She amassed a whopping 150 house plants and found caring for them offered an escape from her daily pain. Fibromyalgia is a disorder that affects muscle and soft tissue and is accompanied by chronic pain and fatigue.
